Joseph Ruggiero, Executive Director

Joseph Ruggiero was appointed by the Board of Commissioners of the New York State Bridge Authority to the position of Executive Director in March 2010. Mr. Ruggiero serves as the Chief Operating and Executive Officer of the Hudson Valley based public benefit transportation authority.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ruggiero served as an Assistant Comptroller for New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, the state’s chief fiscal officer. Appointed in April 2008, he served in a leadership capacity for public policy. Mr. Ruggiero also worked to establish a compliance unit for the retirement system to insure greater integrity in the system and worked with local governments across New York State encouraging them to partner for shared services and efficiencies.

Joseph Ruggiero entered public service in 1994 as a councilman and then Supervisor of the Town of Wappinger in Dutchess County. Mr. Ruggiero served four terms as councilman and three as Supervisor where he was the municipality’s chief financial and executive officer responsible for designing and implementing a $15 million budget.

Mr. Ruggiero began his career as an engineer in telecommunications and fiber optic networks leading to several management positions in the metropolitan New York area. In 2001, he worked for Telergy, a telecom company in lower Manhattan. The attacks of September 11th caused Telergy to close its doors. It was after September 11th that Joseph decided to enter public service.

Joseph Ruggiero holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York Institute of Technology. He, his wife Stephanie and son Michael reside in Dutchess County.
